Shettima: Agro-Processing Zones Crucial for Nigeria’s Food Security

Vice President Kashim Shettima has declared that the timely execution of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) Program will spark an industrial revolution in Nigeria’s agricultural sector. The vice president, represented by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, made this statement during the program’s groundbreaking ceremony in Ijaiye, Oyo State. The initiative marks a significant step toward creating a self-sufficient and prosperous Nigeria.

According to Shettima, the program is more than just an infrastructural project; it is a bold statement that Nigeria’s future depends on transforming its rich agricultural resources into value-added products. These products will, in turn, power industries, create jobs, and uplift local farmers. This initiative, he noted, is one of the cornerstones of the Renewed Hope Agenda championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The SAPZ initiative is the result of a strategic partnership between the Federal Government, state governments, and international development partners, including the African Development Bank (AfDB), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB). This collaborative effort aims to build agro-industrial hubs that will empower farmers and make Nigeria a competitive player in the global market.

Shettima also commended the leadership of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, whose dedication to the state’s development helped set the stage for the event. The Vice President emphasized that this kind of partnership and shared vision is crucial for the nation’s progress and for creating opportunities for every citizen.
