Senator Natasha Accuses Akpabio of Ordering Passport Seizure at Abuja Airport
Abuja — Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has accused the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, of directing immigration officers to seize her international passport at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
In a video circulating on Tuesday, the senator is seen confronting immigration officials at the airport, demanding an explanation after her passport was allegedly confiscated.
She described the action as an unlawful restriction of her movement and a violation of her fundamental human rights, insisting that she was neither under investigation nor subject to any travel restriction order.
> “This is an abuse of power and a breach of my constitutional rights. I was about to board when they told me there was an instruction from the Senate President to seize my passport,” Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was heard saying in the footage.
As of press time, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) had yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. Efforts to reach the Office of the Senate President for comment were unsuccessful.
The development has sparked widespread reactions across social and political circles, with some commentators describing the alleged directive as politically motivated, while others have called for a full investigation into the matter.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, a member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has been vocal on issues of governance, accountability, and women’s rights in the National Assembly.
