Senate Passes Electoral Act Amendment Bill For Third Reading
The Senate has passed the Electoral Act 2022 (Repeal and Enactment) Bill, 2026 for third reading during Wednesday’s plenary session, marking a major step toward reforming Nigeria’s electoral process.
The bill was considered clause by clause in the Committee of the Whole, where lawmakers engaged in rigorous debates and made adjustments to some of its provisions to strengthen transparency, credibility, and efficiency in the conduct of elections.
After the detailed review, the Senate adopted the report of the committee and formally passed the bill for third reading.
The legislation now moves to the next stage in the lawmaking process, as part of efforts to improve the country’s electoral framework and democratic governance.
