The Senate on Wednesday passed the Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) proposed 2025 statutory budget of ₦1.783 trillion for second reading.

President Bola Tinubu formally submitted the appropriation bill in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, calling on lawmakers to expedite the passage to support critical development initiatives in the nation’s capital.

Reading the letter during plenary, Akpabio noted that the budget presentation was in accordance with Section 299 of the Nigerian Constitution, which authorises the President to lay the FCT’s annual budget before the National Assembly.

President Tinubu stated that the 2025 FCT budget is focused on strengthening key sectors such as healthcare, social welfare, agriculture, and employment generation. He emphasized that its timely approval is necessary to ensure effective governance and service delivery to residents of the territory.

The appropriation bill now moves to the committee stage for further scrutiny before a final vote.
