Senate Confirms Amupitan as INEC Chairman
The Senate has confirmed Professor Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
His confirmation followed a voice vote by lawmakers after he appeared before the Red Chamber for screening and responded to questions from senators.
Amupitan, who arrived at the National Assembly Complex earlier in the day, exchanged pleasantries with senators before the session began.
He was accompanied to the chamber by the Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo, and other dignitaries.
With this confirmation, Professor Amupitan is expected to oversee preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
