A prison spokesperson has disclosed that former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has been put into a prison’s segregated housing unit for his own safety.

The case of George Floyd’s death has been on for a while now but the verdict was made public on Tuesday. Chauvin was found guilty of the murder of George Floyd.

The death of Floyd which triggered a lot of reactions from people all over the world, left concerned persons with the option of waiting for the verdict.

The comments of Judge Peter Cahill on Tuesday must have given answers to the questions of how Chauvin’s conviction will end.

Cahill said, Chauvin will be sentenced in about eight weeks, the second week of June, with a precise date to be announced.

Chauvin who had been out on bail since October, had his bail revoked by Cahill after the verdict. This time, Chauvin will now await sentencing while behind bars.

According to CNN, department of Corrections Spokesperson, Sarah Fitzgerald said Chauvin on Tuesday, was taken to a state prison — the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Oak Park Heights — to await sentencing.
