President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki has condemned the high rate of smuggling of rice and poultry products into the country, describing it as economic sabotage. 

The Senate President has mandated the senate Committee on Agriculture to investigate why the Federal Ministries of Agriculture and Finance are yet to pay compensation to all poultry farmers who lost their birds during the recent outbreak of the Avian Influenza (bird flu) in the country. 

In another development, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says it has commenced an investigation into the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and other principal officers over budget padding.
This was stated in a letter signed by the Acting Head, Extractive Industry and Fraud Section, Michael Wetklas to the suspended former Chairman, House Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin.
The EFCC asked Mr.Jibrin to come to its headquarters for another round of interrogation.
