President Tinubu Rallies Super Falcons Ahead of WAFCON Final
President Bola Tinubu has sent a powerful message of encouragement to Nigeria’s Super Falcons as they prepare to face host nation Morocco in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final tonight in Rabat. The President lauded the team’s “awe-inspiring” performance throughout the tournament, emphasizing their representation of the country with immense pride, honor, and strength.
Beyond their impressive on-field achievements, President Tinubu highlighted the team’s exemplary sportsmanship, referencing their compassionate visit to injured South African player Gabriela Salgado. He stated that this act reflected “our shared humanity, empathy, and sisterly affection, which we Africans hold in high regard.” The President also noted the Falcons’ undefeated run, their single goal conceded, and their historical success in previous finals, suggesting that “If statistics alone win matches, you are already champions.”
In a show of unwavering national support, President Tinubu confirmed that a presidential delegation has been dispatched to Rabat to attend the final. The delegation includes key government officials such as the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, and the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, among others, tasked with conveying the full backing of the Nigerian government and its people.
President Tinubu concluded his message with fervent prayers for the team’s success in clinching a record tenth continental title. He expressed his eagerness to receive the team, the coveted trophy, and officials in Abuja, urging the Falcons to “finish strong by the Grace of God. Go for the tenth! Bring the trophy home.”
