President Tinubu Meets Governors Amidst Search for New APC National Chairman

Ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, President Bola Tinubu held a closed-door meeting with APC governors at the State House, Abuja. The meeting, took place Wednesday,is widely believed to be crucial for determining the party’s next National Chairman.

This high-level consultation follows the resignation of the former APC Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, on June 28, 2025. Following his departure, Ali Dalori, who served as the Deputy National Chairman (North), was appointed to the position.

While the Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum offered limited details in an interview with State House correspondents, political observers widely suspect that the primary agenda of this meeting is to select a consensus candidate for the party’s top leadership role.

The upcoming NEC meeting, scheduled for July 24, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, is expected to formalize the choice. Many political analysts anticipate that the next APC National Chairman will emerge from the North-Central geopolitical zone. Among the prominent names being circulated are Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, former Governor of Nasarawa State, and Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the current Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
