The approval of 774, 000 youths recruitment under the Special Public Works Programme has been secured; the Minister of State Labour, Festus Keyamo (SAN) confirmed.

Keyamo said the confirmation was carried out by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), The Punch reports.

The content of the minister’s message on Tuesday read: “I have the instructions of my boss, Mr President, to proceed with the supervision of the preparation for the execution of the programme in accordance with the law.”

One of the reasons fro the long delay for the recruitment exercise to be approved, was that, the lawmakers had accused the Minister of trying to hijack the scheme from the National Directorate of Employment, the implementing agency of the project.

Meanwhile, Keyamo’s view concerning the lawmakers’ response was different as he accused them of seeking to control the implementation of the programme, when he appeared before members of the National Assembly Joint Committee on Labour on June 30.
