The Independent National Electoral has deregistered seventy four political parties.
The Chairman of INEC Professor Mahmood Yakubu broke the news at a news briefing on Thursday in Abuja.
He told journalists the parties failed to meet the requirements stipulated by law.
This in effect brings the number of political parties in Nigeria to eighteen.
The INEC Chairman also announced the dates for the governorship election in Edo and Ondo States.
Edo will hold its election on Saturday the nineteenth of September two thousand and twenty while Ondo will hold its election on the tenth of October two thousand and twenty.
