Senate has passed a bill confirming June 12 as Democracy Day in Nigeria.
The bill which originated from the House of Representatives was unanimously adopted by senators during Thursday’s plenary.
The Public Holiday Act (amendment bill 2004) seeks to make June 12 as the new Democracy Day to replace May 29, which marks the official handing over of military to civilian administration.
In the meantime, the Upper legislate chamber has confirmed the reappointment of Godwin Emefiele as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria for five years.
The confirmation followed the consideration of a report presented by Chaiman, Senate Committee on Banking, Rafiu Ibrahim, on Thursday in plenary.
President Muhammadu Buhari had last week sent a letter to the Senate requesting the Upper Chamber to confirm Emefiele for another five-year term as CBN boss.
