Police Besiege PDP Secretariat Ahead of NEC Meeting
Nigeria’s main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national headquarters, Wadata Plaza, has been surrounded by a significant police presence on monday , ahead of a crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The deployment has sparked concerns and allegations of political interference, with one party staff member claiming he was manhandled.
Armed police officers have cordoned off Dalaba Street, the road leading to the secretariat, effectively restricting access.
An unnamed PDP official alleged the police deployment was specifically aimed at preventing a planned Expanded Caucus Meeting.
However, some party staff were reportedly allowed to enter the building without resistance.
The heightened security arrives as the PDP grapples with internal divisions and maneuvering ahead of key political events.
The situation escalated with Ibu Thomas, a staff member at the PDP Secretariat, alleging he was harassed and forcefully removed from his office.
Speaking on camera to journalists, Thomas claimed this occurred after he insisted the party had a scheduled Board of Trustees meeting.
He further accused the FCT Minister of orchestrating the police presence at the party’s headquarters.
The police have yet to issue a statement regarding the deployment or the allegations made by Mr. Thomas.
