Peter Obi Decries Killings in Taraba, Benue, Kogi, Calls for Urgent Action
Former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has condemned the spate of violence and killings in Taraba, Benue, and Kogi states, describing the situation as a “gaping wound” on the conscience of the nation.
In a statement posted on his official X account on Wednesday, Obi lamented what he called the “senseless killings” that have plagued several communities across the three states in recent months. He noted that the violence has claimed the lives of children, women, and even religious leaders, with little visible intervention from authorities.
“The bloodshed continues largely unchecked,” Obi said, “while affected communities are left to suffer in silence.”
He criticised the government’s apparent inaction, warning that continued indifference to the plight of victims could further deepen the country’s social and humanitarian crises.
Obi called for immediate and coordinated efforts to end the violence and bring relief to the affected populations. He stressed that “a nation must not lose its sense of humanity”, urging leaders at all levels to prioritise the safety and dignity of every Nigerian citizen.
