Nigerian female football star, Asisat Oshoala on Thursday clinched the 2022 Women’s Player of the Year award for a record fifth time, at the CAF Awards ceremony in Rabat, Morocco.

The Barcelona star overtook compatriot Perpetua Nkwocha to win the award for the fifth time, after going ahead of Ajara Nchout Njoya (Cameroon and Inter Milan) and Zambia international Grace Chanda (Zambia and BIIK Kazygurt) who were nominated in the category.

Oshoala, 27, has made history to be the first African to win this prestigious award five times, overtaking Perpetua Nkwocha who won the title on four occasions.

Due to injury, the prolific football player was forced to miss the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
