Ogun State has officially renamed the refurbished MKO Abiola Stadium as the MKO Abiola Sports Complex, following major upgrades in preparation for the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF).
Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the name change and unveiled the new facilities, which have transformed the stadium from a single-purpose arena into a state-of-the-art multi-sport complex.
Previously limited to a football pitch and athletics track, the renovated complex now features a 50-meter Olympic-size swimming pool, basketball, tennis and handball courts, a new digital scoreboard, a tartan track, and a hybrid football turf.
Speaking on the development, Governor Abiodun said the state’s hosting of the upcoming NSF has been a catalyst for reviving its sporting infrastructure, which he believes will further stimulate the local economy and enrich the sporting ecosystem of the Gateway State.
“With these investments, Ogun State is not only positioning itself as a hub for national sports but also driving economic activity and community engagement,” the governor said.
The 22nd National Sports Festival is expected to draw thousands of athletes, officials, and visitors to the state, boosting tourism, commerce, and youth development.
