Nollywood star Stanley Amandi arrested in alleged coup plot against Tinubu
Nollywood actor and filmmaker Stanley Amandi has been arrested over an alleged plot to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government.
Amandi was reportedly arrested in September 2025 alongside military officers accused of planning a violent coup, according to Premium Times.
Security sources say the actor was hired to push propaganda for the plotters, who allegedly planned to assassinate top government officials.
Those said to be on the hit list include President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
On Monday, Defence Headquarters confirmed the plot and said the officers involved would face military judicial panels for trying to remove the government illegally.
The military said investigations had been completed and described the alleged actions as a serious violation of the ethics and professional standards of the Armed Forces.
Amandi, a former chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, is known for films such as The Album, Tiger King, Cornerstone and Once Upon a Dream.
His last Instagram post was dated 19 September 2025, just days before his arrest.
