NOA Condemns Gruesome Mob Action In Ilorin, Kwara state

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) expresses deep concern and absolute dismay over the tragic incident of jungle justice that occurred at Ipata Market, Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday, August 21, 2025, resulting in the death of a woman falsely accused of child kidnapping.

According to reports, the victim—believed to be a destitute individual—was mistaken for a kidnapper and violently attacked by a mob. Despite swift intervention by the Nigeria Police, which led to her immediate evacuation to the General Hospital in Ilorin, she sadly succumbed to her injuries.

The Director General of the Agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, described the barbaric act as not only reprehensible but entirely at variance with our national values and the principles enshrined in the National Value Charter. Jungle justice undermines the rule of law, threatens public safety, and perpetuates a culture of fear, suspicion, and disregard for due process.

A statement sined by Bala Musa the
Director Communication and Media
National Orientation Agency says the Agency strongly aligns with the position of the Kwara State Police Command in condemning the act and urging citizens to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant.

“We reiterate that only constitutionally empowered institutions have the mandate to investigate and prosecute alleged offenders. Any resort to mob action is a violation of both our collective humanity and the law” it added

Accordiibg to the statement, this incident underscores the urgent need for intensified public enlightenment on civic responsibility, conflict resolution, and the sanctity of human life saying as part of our ongoing National Reorientation Campaign, the agency will step up collaboration with community leaders, security agencies, and media stakeholders to promote lawful conduct and strengthen trust in law enforcement institutions.

It called on all Nigerians to embrace empathy, patience, and patriotism in handling issues of public concern. Let us work together to build a society where justice is pursued through lawful channels, and the dignity of every citizen is upheld.
