The Federal High Court in Abuja resumed proceedings on Tuesday in the ongoing trial of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, with the prosecution presenting a key document allegedly linking him to acts of terrorism.
Justice James Omotosho presided over the session, during which the prosecution’s witness, identified under the code name BBB for security reasons, continued testimony. The witness was led in evidence by prosecuting counsel and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Adegboyega Awomolo.
A central piece of evidence presented was a petition dated June 17, 2021, reportedly authored by former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, and addressed to the Department of State Services (DSS). The petition accuses Kanu of terrorism, murder, and incitement to violence specifically targeted at Nigerian security agencies.
Despite initial scrutiny, the document was admitted into evidence as Exhibit PWF without objection from the defence team, which is being led by Kanu Agabi, SAN.
Kanu, who is facing multiple terrorism-related charges filed by the Federal Government, has consistently denied the allegations. The trial has attracted both national and international attention, given IPOB’s role in separatist agitations in Nigeria’s Southeast.
The case continues as the court hears more testimony and examines additional evidence.
