NIMASA CLOSES TWO LAGOS TERMINALS OVER SECURITY VIOLATIONS
The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) shut down ShellPlux and TMDK terminals in the Ijegun-Egba area of Lagos on July 17, 2025, due to persistent violations of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. NIMASA, as Nigeria’s designated authority for ISPS Code enforcement, acted after the terminals failed to comply despite multiple warnings.
The closure aligns with global maritime security standards and Section 79(f) of the ISPS Code Implementation Regulations (2014), which mandates shutting down non-compliant facilities after three months of violations.
NIMASA’s Director General, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, described the action as a last resort to ensure maritime security, with the terminals to reopen once compliance is me
