The earlier announcement on the resumption of schools in Nigeria has been reversed by the Federal Government.

In addition to the reversed resumption date, the Federal Government said no Nigerian schools will participate in the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations earlier scheduled for August 5 to September 5.

Schools were shut down across the country as a result of the drastic spread of the deadly Covid-19, which resulted into casualties across the country and globally.

The Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, announced during a media briefing on July 6 that, the examination will now take place between August 4 and September 5.

There was a concern for safety, on the resumption of schools as  the education minister, Adamu Adamu said,  Nigerian schools will not reopen any time soon “until it is safe to do so because of the COVID-19 pandemic”.

He disclosed this new development while speaking to State House correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided by President Muhammadu Buhari.
