Natasha’s Suspension: Senate Stops Lawmaker’s Return, Cites Pending Court Case
The Senate has stopped Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from resuming duties, stating that her six-month suspension is still in effect.
Akpoti-Uduaghan had written to the National Assembly on September 4, 2025, announcing her intention to return.
In response, Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Yahaya Danzaria in a letter explained that her suspension remains valid due to an ongoing case at the Court of Appeal. He emphasized that no administrative decision will be made until the court delivers a final verdict.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended on March 6, 2025, following a dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements during a plenary. She challenged the suspension in court but lost at the Federal High Court.
She has since appealed the ruling and is awaiting judgment.
The Senate has however assured her that she will be officially notified of its decision once the legal process is complete.
