The newly inaugurated Mountain Top University is not a commercial project but an evangelical project, the visitor of the institution and General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries, Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya has said.
He said this during the matriculation ceremony of the first set of students into the university on Monday, adding that the university was set up to take youths out of the street and give them a quality future.
Olukoya listed 70 programmes that the church had embarked on in the last few years to develop youths across Nigeria, some of which included the sports, vocations in the area of plumbing, sewing, cooking, baking and crafting.
Besides leadership training for youths, the astute academic in the field of Molecular Biology advised the new students to put their best quality in their areas of specialization.
According to him, it is the quality they are able to show that will expose them to the world and eventually fulfil the plan of God in their lives.
As he put it, “MTU is an offshoot of our agenda to develop our youths in this country. From all indications, the youths of this country can only excel through divine intervention, judging by the situation of the country. That is why we have come up with MTU.”
He explained that MTU is an evangelical project and is not established for profit making. “That is why we have established an endowment fund to care for the institution. At present, we have acquired 15 scholarship, three of which is full-time scholarship.”
He said that individuals and corporate entities had begun to make various donations to ensure that the varsity provide quality education and service for the society.
“I must also emphasize that each of the student admitted into the university today will not only acquire degree but must learn one vocation while in the institution. If you are allergic to prayer, you cannot stay. You have to pray by fire by force.” He said.
In his welcome address, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Elijah Adebowale Ayolabi said that the key agenda of the institution was to be a centre of academic excellence committed to the achievement of accelerated development through research and manpower development.
He said that the institution would encourage and promote the advancement of learning and hold out to all persons, without discrimination as to race, creed, sex, religious conviction, the opportunity of acquiring a university education.
He posited that the university would enhance the development of acceptable societal values and qualitative leadership character through the inclusion of sound moral principles and ethics of excellence, success, national unity and service to mankind.
