A heavy rain which has led to huge flooding has claimed the lives of at least 17 patients in a hospital in Mexico’s central Hidalgo state.

The disaster which started when a river burst its banks and water then cut the power supply at the hospital in the town of Tula was disclosed by officials, BBC reports.

According to a local media report, some of the victims were Covid-19 patients who were being treated with oxygen therapy.

Rescue operations have commenced at least 40 patients have been evacuated, while a boat transporting the state governor have sank in the river.

Another set of people that have played a role in rescue operations are the army, after thy were deployed to provide assistance to rescue teams dealing with the disaster

At the moment, state authorities have intentions to continue co-ordinating emergency operations in the affected areas.
