The duchess of Sussex, Meghan is already getting support from many social media users and recognised individuals after her controversial interview with renowned Media personality, Oprah Winfrey.

They have reacted to the aftermath of the interview and denounced the “cruelty” she was allegedly subjected to by the British royal family and some sectors of UK media.

Since they stepped down from royal duties a year ago, the highly anticipated interview, broadcast on Sunday in the US, was the first by Meghan Markle and her husband Prince Harry.

One major thing that brought about the controversy was that the discussions in the palace was about the colour of their son Archie’s skin, losing royal protection and the intense pressures which led the duchess of Sussex whose mother is Black and father is white, to contemplate suicide.

The development immediately drew mass attention on Twitter, as a lot of people reacted and backed Meghan, for speaking out over the alleged discrimination she faced after marrying into the royal family in 2018.

On the comments of those that reacted, one of the prominent personality, a Tennis star and Meghan’s close friend, Serena Williams said she understood the “pain and cruelty” Meghan had experienced.

Speaking further, Williams stressed that Meghan had taught her “what it means to be truly noble”.

In her words on Twitter, “I know firsthand the sexism and racism institutions and the media use to vilify women and people of color to minimize us, to break us down and demonize us,”

“The mental health consequences of systemic oppression and victimisation are devastating, isolating, and all too often lethal.”
