Massive Drug Hauls in Lagos and Port Harcourt Net Billions, Explosives Seized in Kaduna
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted colossal quantities of illicit substances in Port Harcourt and Lagos, valued at over N3.4 billion. The major seizures included a staggering two million pills of the potent opioid, tafrodol, and 163,000 bottles of codeine syrup, discovered during a joint inspection of a suspicious container at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex.
Simultaneously in Lagos, NDLEA operatives recovered 1.5 million opioid pills from a suspect in the Alaba-Rago area, with the trail leading to a Lekki residence where the occupant, Obinna Kenneth, is now at large. Further operations at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos resulted in the seizure of 20kg of Canadian Loud cannabis concealed in food product tins, leading to the arrest of three individuals.
The agency’s efforts extended beyond narcotics, as operatives in Kaduna intercepted 942 explosives hidden in a commercial vehicle, arresting one suspect. Additionally, significant arrests and seizures of skunk, tramadol, and other controlled substances were made in Kano, Edo, Anambra, and Niger states, demonstrating a nationwide clampdown on drug-related criminal activities.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), lauded the dedication of the agency’s personnel across various commands for their impactful operations, balancing supply reduction with ongoing drug demand reduction initiatives nationwide, including WADA sensitization programs in schools.
