A US man, David Bennett, has gotten a heart transplant from a genetically-modified pig, making him the first person in the world to achieve such feat.

According to doctors the 57-year-old man, is doing well three days after the experiment which took seven hours procedure in Baltimore to be accomplished.

His long-term chances of survival have not been concluded as the transplant was considered the last hope of saving Mr Bennett’s life.

In response to the development, Mr Bennett spoke a day before the surgery, admitting that the options of the transplant were: a die or do. “I know it’s a shot in the dark, but it’s my last choice,” he said.

A special dispensation by the US medical regulator was granted by doctors at the University of Maryland Medical Center, so that they can carry out the procedure on the basis that Mr Bennett would otherwise have died.
