Makinde Presents ₦891 Billion ‘Budget of Economic Expansion’ for 2026
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Monday presented a ₦891 billion Appropriation Bill to the Oyo State House of Assembly for the 2026 fiscal year, describing it as a spending plan aimed at accelerating economic growth and deepening development across key sectors.
Presenting the budget—tagged “Budget of Economic Expansion”—on the floor of the House, the governor said the proposal is designed to convert the state’s current stability into broader economic opportunities for residents.
According to the breakdown, capital expenditure receives the highest allocation at ₦502 billion, representing 56.37% of the budget, while recurrent expenditure is pegged at ₦389 billion, or 43.63%.
Sectoral Breakdown
Infrastructure: ₦210 billion (23%)
Education: Over ₦155 billion (17.40%)
Health: ₦70 billion (7.94%)
Agriculture: ₦19 billion (2.1%)
Makinde said the proposed investments—particularly in infrastructure, education, health, and agriculture—reflect his administration’s commitment to boosting productivity, improving the quality of life, and sustaining the economic momentum recorded in recent years.
The governor urged the Assembly to give the budget expedited consideration to ensure early implementation in 2026.
