LG Election: OSSIEC Drags IGP, Osun CP To Court

The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC, has sued the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun and the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Umar Abba, for the breach of fundamental rights.

Joined in the suit is the OSSIEC Chairman, Barrister Hashim Abioye.

In the suit, the duo are demanding the sum of two billion Naira as damage for harassment, intimidation and detention of some ad-hoc staff of the commission for committing no offence.

Abioye said the commission is taking up the case against the Nigerian Police over the overzealous of their men.

Recall that the police on Saturday sealed off the premises of OSSIEC and also arrested some of its staff with ballot boxes.

As a result of the arrests, the local government elections were late to start in some polling stations..Abioye said.
