The African Union (AU), in partnership with the All-Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), has announced Lagos, Nigeria, as the official host city for the 2025 edition of the prestigious continental music awards.
The announcement was made at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, by Angela Martins, Head of Culture at the African Union. She described Lagos as the heartbeat of Africa’s modern music scene and a fitting host for this year’s celebration of African creativity and excellence.
The week-long event, which will run from November 25 to 30, 2025, will feature a series of activities, including the renowned AFRIMA awards ceremony, panel discussions, workshops, and the vibrant Music Village Festival, which typically draws large crowds and top African performers.
This year’s theme, “Unstoppable Africa,” underscores the resilience and global rise of African music and culture. Martins said the theme and the choice of Lagos as host reflect “the vibrancy, brilliance, and dream of modern African music,” which the city has come to symbolize.
Lagos previously hosted AFRIMA multiple times, with past editions drawing artists, executives, and media personalities from across the continent and diaspora. The city’s selection reaffirms its reputation as a global music capital and a cultural hub for African entertainment.
Further details about the event, including ticketing, performer lineup, and venue specifics, are expected in the coming weeks.
