LAGOS REVIVES ICONIC EYO FESTIVAL AFTER EIGHT YEARS
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has arrived at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) to join the celebrations of the 2025 Eyo Festival, also known as the Adamu Orisha Play.
The festival kicked off with vibrant and colourful processions, drawing thousands of residents, visitors, and spectators to witness the spectacular display
Returning after an eight-year hiatus—the last celebration was in 2017—the Eyo Festival is renowned for its majestic white-clad masquerades, rhythmic chants, and energetic dances, all deeply rooted in Yoruba symbolism and tradition.
This year’s edition honours prominent Lagos figures, including the late Alhaja Abibatu Mogaji (mother of President Bola Tinubu), former governors Lateef Jakande and Michael Otedola, and General Mobolaji Johnson. Dignitaries, including President Tinubu, are among the distinguished guests gracing the event at TBS.
Governor Sanwo-Olu has been actively involved in the preparations, emphasising the festival’s role in showcasing Lagos’ rich cultural heritage to local and international audiences.
