Lagos LG Polls: Voting Underway Across Councils
Voting is currently underway across various local government areas and local council development areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State as residents file out to elect their council chairmen and councillors.
The polls, being conducted by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), began at 8:30 a.m. in most polling units across the 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs.
Initial reports from polling stations in Ikeja, Surulere, Mushin, and Ikorodu show moderate turnout, with election officials present and materials arriving on schedule in several areas.
Security operatives have been deployed across the state to ensure a peaceful exercise. Officers from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps were observed at strategic locations to maintain law and order.
Speaking to journalists in Agege, LASIEC Chairperson Justice Ayotunde Phillips (rtd) commended the orderly conduct of voters and assured of the commission’s preparedness to deliver a credible poll.
Some voters expressed concern over low awareness and voter apathy, while others praised the smooth process and the punctuality of electoral officials.
As of the time of filing this report, voting is ongoing without major incidents, although isolated complaints of late arrival of materials in parts of Epe and Badagry have been noted.
Counting is expected to begin immediately after the voting.
