The prevalence and mortality rates associated with Kidney disease in Nigeria have been likened to an epidemic.
High mortality rates have been traced to poor care and government’s refusal
to subsidize the cost of dialysis and transplant.
March 9 is observed globally as World Kidney Day. A day to create awareness, advocate healthy lifestyle and health policy measures and organ transplant donations. 
This year the focus is on the relationship and harmful effects of obesity and its association with kidney disease.
In 2014, WHO said there were over six hundred million obessed adults worldwide.
