Keir Starmer Joins European Leaders in Ukraine to Back 30-Day Ceasefire Proposa
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has joined other European leaders in Kyiv to support a proposed 30-day unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine, amid ongoing international efforts to de-escalate the conflict.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, French President Emmanuel Macron, German opposition leader Friedrich Merz, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Starmer stated that Europe and the United States are “calling [Russian President Vladimir] Putin out” over continued hostilities.
The leaders, forming what Starmer described as a “coalition of the willing,” held a video call with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss the proposed ceasefire, which is expected to begin Monday if all parties agree.
The move signals renewed diplomatic pressure on Russia to halt military operations in Ukraine, especially as civilian casualties and infrastructure damage continue to mount.
However, the Kremlin appears resistant to the proposal. Russian government spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said earlier that a ceasefire is contingent on Ukraine’s allies halting all weapons shipments to Kyiv—a condition Western leaders have consistently rejected.
The proposed ceasefire comes amid growing calls from humanitarian organizations and international observers for a pause in fighting to facilitate aid delivery and protect civilians.
