Kano State Assembly moves to impeach deputy governor, Aminu Gwarzo
The Kano State Assembly has initiated impeachment proceedings against Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo over allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust.
The allegations include receiving kickbacks totaling N462 million from local government councils between June 2023 and January 2024, and another N726 million from February to July 2024 under the guise of special assignments.
The Assembly also accused Abdulsalam of facilitating payments of N440 million to NovoMed Pharmaceuticals Limited, allegedly in violation of procurement and fiscal regulations.
The impeachment notice, signed by thirty eight lawmakers, was presented during plenary in accordance with Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution.
Abdulsalam has been given two weeks to respond to the allegations.
The Speaker of the Assembly will formally notify the deputy governor of the allegations and may request the Chief Judge to set up an investigative panel if the motion secures the required majority support.
