Kano Police Enforce Durbar Ban Ahead of 2025 Eid-el-Kabir Celebrations

The Kano State Police Command has reaffirmed a total ban on all Durbar activities across the state during the upcoming 2025 Eid-el-Kabir festivities.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the command said the decision was taken in light of credible intelligence reports indicating plans by some individuals to disrupt public peace during the celebrations.

The ban extends to horse or animal riding, car racing, reckless driving, and the unlawful possession or display of firearms or weapons, including any object deemed suspicious or capable of causing panic.

“Acting on credible intelligence, the command, in collaboration with all security agencies in the state, pronounced a total ban on all forms of durbar activities throughout the state, as part of our collective commitment to sustaining peace and security,” the police stated.

The command urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and celebrate the season peacefully. It also warned that anyone found violating the ban or engaging in actions likely to cause unrest would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

Durbar, a traditional royal procession featuring horse riding and cultural displays, is typically held during major Muslim festivals in northern Nigeria, drawing large crowds. However, in recent years, security concerns have led to restrictions on the event in some states.
