Another set of Covid-19 infections has been recorded in the US.

This development has increased the possibility of the spread of the deadly disease as Christmas approaches.

Covid Tracking Project data showed that for the first time, the numbers of people in hospital reached 100,000, which is now double of what was obtainable since early November.

On the increase, new cases rose by a record 195,695 on Wednesday as the daily death toll of 2,733 was also close to a new high, BBC reports.

At the moment, infections are closing in on 14 million, with more than 264,000 deaths.

With around a million new infections reported every week in November, these numbers have continued to soar in recent weeks, which is equivalent to 99 every minute.

US authorities have warned that the country’s healthcare system faces an unprecedented strain this winter. This concern was raised in response to surging numbers.

Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) while sharing his view said, “The reality is that December, January and February are going to be the most difficult time in the public health history of this nation.”
