A huge increase of 919 coronavirus death has been recorded in Italy in the last 24 hours.
According to Evening Standard, the current case recorded is the highest daily increase in the global pandemic.
The actual total number of people to have died after contracting Covid-19 in the country now stands at 9,134.
Initially, confirmed cases so far have hit 86,498, rising from 80,539 the day before.
The chief of the Superior Health Institute, Silvio Brusaferro, disclosed to reporters before the data was released. He said:
“We haven’t reached the peak and we haven’t passed it,”
He said further that, there were “signs of a slowdown” in the numbers of infections, which slipped from the previous 24-hour period.
Mr Brusaferro added, “When the descent begins, how steep it is will depend on our behaviour,”
Head of the council advising the government on health matters, Franco Locatelli, said the existing restrictions on movement were likely to be extended beyond the hoped-for end date of April 3.
