The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar III, has described hunger as a virus that is killing more Nigerians than the dreaded coronavirus.

The revered Muslim leader speaking at a religious gathering said many Nigerians around the country are struggling to survive – The sultan noted that religious and community leaders had a responsibility to continue to talk about these serious issues and make recommendations to the government The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Abubakar III, on Thursday, March 12, said hunger was killing more Nigerians than the dreaded coronavirus.

The revered Muslim leader made the statement at the first quarterly meeting of Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC), in Abuja, The Sun reports. Abubakar described hunger as a serious virus that is killing Nigerians much higher than coronavirus. He said Nigerians around the country are struggling to survive.

The sultan said religious and community leaders had a responsibility to continue to talk about very serious issues and make recommendations to the government for appropriate action.
