As a result of the deadly Coronavirus outbreak, hundreds of hospital workers in Hong Kong have gone on strike.
In order to limit the risk of the coronavirus spreading, they have demanded that the border with mainland China be completely closed.
Another development regarding the outbreak is that, health workers want a total border closure, despite Hong Kong’s suspension of cross-border rail and ferry services.
According to authorities, closing the border completely would go against advice from the World Health Organization.
So far, the number of victims confirmed to have contacted the virus in the city are 15.
Winnie Yu, chairwoman of the newly-formed Hospital Authority Employees Alliance expressing his concern said,
“If there is no full border closure, there won’t be enough manpower, protective equipment, or isolation rooms, to combat the outbreak,”
