Hamas: Israeli Offensive in Northern Gaza Kills at Least 5
The Hamas-run civil defence agency has claimed that an Israeli military offensive in northern Gaza has killed at least 50 people, following a major assault launched in the early hours of Friday morning.
According to Palestinian residents, Israeli forces carried out a coordinated attack involving ground troops, airstrikes, and naval shelling. The operation reportedly began with smoke bombs, followed by heavy artillery fire from positions near the border.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have not yet issued a statement regarding the alleged operation or the reported casualties.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions and ongoing hostilities in the region, as Gaza continues to endure a complete blockade that has now lasted for 10 weeks. The blockade has severely restricted the flow of food, medicine, fuel, and other humanitarian aid into the territory.
In Washington, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio expressed concern over the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Gaza, stating that the U.S. is “troubled” by the ongoing crisis. He urged diplomatic efforts to alleviate civilian suffering while maintaining Israel’s right to security.
Efforts by international organizations to deliver aid have been hampered by the security situation and lack of access to affected areas. The United Nations has repeatedly called for a ceasefire and the opening of humanitarian corridors.
The situation remains fluid, with casualties expected to rise as rescue efforts continue in areas struck by the reported offensive.
