Gunmen abduct Bayelsa High Court judge in Yenagoa
Justice E.G. Umokoro of the Bayelsa State High Court was on Saturday night abducted by unknown gunmen in Yenagoa, the state capital.
He was reportedly kidnapped at about 7:00 pm in front of a popular eatery located in the Ekeki area along the Chief Melford Okilo Expressway.
Eye witnesses say the kidnappers numbering about six dressed in police uniform whisked the judge away after beating him with their gun and shot on the ground to scare away others around
The motive for the abduction remains unclear as of press time.
The incident has heightened tension in the state, which has recently witnessed a surge in cult-related violence that has left several people dead.
The Bayelsa state police command is yet to issue any official statement on the abduction as of press time.
