GRAMMYs 2026: Tyla Beats Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid and Ayra Starr
The 2026 Grammy Awards have ended, with Nigerian artists receiving nominations but no wins.
Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Ayra Starr and Omah Lay were nominated in major categories, including Best African Music Performance and Best Global Music Album.
However, South African singer Tyla won Best African Music Performance for her song Push 2 Start. She beat competition from Burna Boy’s Love, Davido and Omah Lay’s With You, Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s Gimme Dat, and Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s Hope & Love.
This is Tyla’s second win in the category. She first won in 2024 with Water, making her the first artist to receive the award.
Burna Boy also lost out in the Best Global Music Album category, which was won by Senegalese musician Youssou N’Dour for Éclairer le monde: Light the World.
Despite not winning any awards, Nigeria was recognised at the ceremony. Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti received a Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously, becoming the first African artist to be honoured by the Recording Academy.
