Four Confirmed Dead in Mabushi Underbridge Accident and Failed Carjacking

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the death of four people, including a couple, following a fatal motor vehicle accident and a failed carjacking attempt that occurred yesterday, September 3, on the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway near the Mabushi underbridge.

According to a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident happened around 1:30 p.m. when a grey Toyota Highlander with registration number ABJ 206 EC, driven by Emeka Ehekweme and his wife, was accosted by three unidentified suspects near Berger Junction in the Utako district.

The suspects reportedly forced their way into the vehicle, and during a struggle for control of the steering wheel, the car lost control. It struck a parked Mazda vehicle and then somersaulted into a bridge pillar.

The driver of the Highlander, his wife, and two of the assailants were all confirmed dead upon arrival at the National Hospital. A third suspect survived and is currently receiving medical treatment. The driver of the parked Mazda, identified as Suleman Mohammed, sustained no life-threatening injuries.

The police statement also addressed a video circulating on social media, which shows that the assailants, who were believed to be members of the Road Transport Workers Association, were set ablaze by an angry mob at the scene of the accident.

The FCT Police Command extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and stated that a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is underway.
