Former President Muhammadu Buhari Dies in London Clinic
Abuja, July 13, 2025 – Former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, passed away this afternoon at a London clinic, his family has announced.
In a brief statement signed by his longtime media aide, Garba Shehu, the family said:
“Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London. May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin.”
Buhari, aged 82, led Nigeria first as military head of state from 1983 to 1985 and later as the democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023. His administration was noted for its anti-corruption drive, infrastructure initiatives, and efforts to combat insecurity.
Details of funeral arrangements will be announced in due course. Nigeria mourns one of its most consequential leaders.
