Severe flooding and tornadoes have hit the north-east US, leaving at least nine people are dead.

Efforts have been made to reach affected people but only one body has been retrieved from a vehicle after the flash flood ravaged the entire region.

The development has also prompted a situation whereby people have been trapped in flooded basements.

While people have remained stranded, some of the images seen reflects water pouring into subway stations and people’s homes.

At the moment, the critical situation has prompted the governors of New York and New Jersey to declare a state of emergency.

The routine of movements in both areas have changed: some New York subway lines are closed and non-emergency vehicles are banned from the city’s road while flights and trains out of New York and New Jersey have been suspended.
