An executive order has been signed on Friday by Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis to ban the use of Covid-19 passports in the state.
What the signed order will do is that it will prohibit any government entity from issuing vaccine passports and block businesses from requiring any such documentation.
Before the development occurred, DeSantis revealed his primary basis for the action, which he tied to freedom and privacy concerns.
His argument was that the implementation and enforcement of vaccine passports would “create two classes of citizens based on vaccinations.”
An immunity passport, also known as an immunity certificate, recovery certificate or release certificate is a document attesting that its bearer is immune to a contagious disease.
Similar to quarantine, the certification of travellers is an action states can take to mitigate an epidemic.
According to CNN, the order notes many Floridians have not yet had the opportunity to obtain a vaccine, while some may have infection-acquired immunity, and other people may be unable to get a Covid-19 vaccine because of health, religious or other reasons.
DeSantis’ executive order reads, “Individual Covid-19 vaccination records are private health information and should not be shared by a mandate,”
All DeSantis efforts since the beginning of this week so far, are against vaccine passports.
