FIRST LADY OLUREMI TINUBU TO CHAMPION “ENERGISE COMMERCIALISATION” PROGRAM FOR NIGERIAN INNOVATORS
The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, SAN, has announced the upcoming launch of a national initiative titled “Energise Commercialisation,” aimed at transforming Nigeria from a technology-importing nation into a global hub for innovation. Speaking during a visit to the State House in Abuja on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, the Minister formally unveiled the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as the official champion of the program.
Dr. Udeh explained that the initiative is designed to identify and support commercially viable inventions, with a specific focus on empowering youths and women across the federation. By bridging the gap between raw innovation and market readiness, the ministry intends to strengthen the capabilities of local inventors and ensure Nigeria remains a competitive player in the global technology revolution.
The First Lady will lead a nationwide sensitization tour that will extend to schools at all levels and reach into the most remote areas of the country. According to the Minister, the program is inclusive in nature, seeking to discover talent not only in academic institutions but also among unlettered Nigerians who possess unique technical skills and inventive ideas. He emphasized that the government is committed to providing the necessary framework to help these individuals achieve their goals and contribute to national development.
Following a closed-door meeting with Senator Tinubu, the Minister confirmed that the ministry is prepared for the imminent commencement of the project. This strategic partnership signals a robust effort to harness the intellectual capital of Nigerians and shift the country toward a self-sustaining, innovation-driven economy.
