FG Rolls Out National Employment Programme

The Federal Government has launched the Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP) to boost job creation and equip Nigerians with vital skills.

Vice President Shettima inaugurated the initiative in Abuja, underscoring President Tinubu’s commitment to empowering the workforce. According to a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, SSA to the President, LEEP fulfills the promise to build a tech-enhanced labour ecosystem.

Shettima emphasized the administration’s focus on upskilling and reskilling citizens for the changing job landscape. He noted the impact of technology on traditional employment and the need for systems supporting job seekers’ growth. The Vice President lauded the Labour Ministry’s role in realizing LEEP.

LEEP aims to counter job vulnerability due to technology by providing comprehensive training for global competitiveness. The programme targets all economic sectors, including the gig economy, using technology to connect employers with skilled labour. Shettima urged collaboration from various stakeholders to ensure LEEP’s success in creating an empowered workforce.

Expressing optimism, Shettima stated Nigeria is entering a new era of workforce empowerment and economic strengthening. He commended the Minister of State for Labour and Employment. Support for LEEP was pledged by state governors, the NDE, ILO, and NLC, recognizing its potential to reduce unemployment and foster national development.
