Federal Government Defends Tinubu’s Projects, Says North West Is Biggest Beneficiary
The Federal Government has dismissed recent claims of regional bias in the distribution of projects and appointments under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stating that the government is guided by principles of fairness, justice, and equity. In a statement signed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government provided a breakdown of major projects, revealing that the North West region has received the largest share of project approvals.
According to the statement, the North West has benefited from projects worth ₦5.97 trillion, which represents over 40% of the total project approvals. This is followed by the South-South with ₦2.41 trillion, the North Central with ₦1.13 trillion, the South East with ₦407 billion, the North East with ₦400 billion, and the South West (excluding Lagos) with ₦604 billion.
The statement highlighted several ongoing legacy road projects, including the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, noting that 52% of the total length of these projects are in the North, with 48% in the South. The government also pointed to the ongoing rehabilitation of the Eastern Corridor rail line from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri and the funding secured for light rail projects in Kano and Kaduna, as well as Lagos and Ogun states, to demonstrate its commitment to balanced development across all geopolitical zones.
